Did you wake up feeling horrible because of a night of drinking? Marijuana can help with that.

Marijuana has been used to help people with different conditions for decades. Whether its pain, nausea, or other conditions using weed has been a true life savior for the masses. But did you know it could help you after a long night of drinking?

What a Hangover Does to the Body

I am all for having a great time out with friends but let's face it- hangovers suck. On top of making you feel like your head is not attached to your body, a hangover has a taxing effect on the body after partying hard. According to Business Insider, one of the issues with drinking is how our bodies metabolize ethanol which is the main component of alcohol.

According to research, after ethanol is broken down, our bodies will break down another component called methanol which our bodies turn into formaldehyde which will cause aches later on. But this is only one of the problems our bodies face after alcohol consumption. The way the liver breaks alcohol down also contributes to a hangover.

Hangover symptoms range from vomiting and headaches to anxiety and tremors. All of these symptoms and the way our bodies process alcohol can create a not so fun cocktail that will have your head spinning the next morning.

Marijuana Can Cure a Hangover?

Marijuana Helps Cure Hangovers

Most people have dealt with a hangover at least once, but I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. A searing headache mixed with intense nausea makes for the worst day ever. But thanks to our favorite green plant, we can feel a little less nauseous after a hangover.

To be clear, marijuana will not be able to get rid of your hangover but it can help reduce the effects such as a headache and nausea. Most people reach for an over the counter pain killer such as Advil when they have a pounding headache. But weed can help with a headache just as well and is less harmful.

Over the counter pain medications can have a serious effect on your stomach lining if you’re not careful, while marijuana is natural and does not harm your stomach. Marijuana is also great to help with that hangover to reduce nausea, anxiety, and reduce inflammation.

According to the American Cancer Society, “Different compounds in marijuana have different actions in the human body. For example, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) seems to cause the "high" reported by marijuana users, and also can help relieve pain and nausea, reduce inflammation, and can act as an antioxidant. Cannabidiol (CBD) can help treat seizures, can reduce anxiety and paranoia, and can counteract the "high" caused by THC.”

When you are dealing with a hangover, you are dehydrated and need to eat to soak up the rest of the alcohol in your system, but nausea can make eating impossible. Taking a few hits off of a joint can really help you out here. Marijuana will be able to help you get your nausea under control and make you want to eat which is famously known as getting the munchies.

An article published on Pop Sugar by Nicole Yi talked about using marijuana to help with hangovers and the best methods are either smoking or vaping. Yi mentions that trying to eat an edible when you are dealing with hangover symptoms will not end well.

Hangover Cure: Weed

Yi said, “If you're on the verge of vomiting, weed will reverse that yucky feeling ASAP. Your achy body will feel more relaxed, as well. Depending on the strain, you're likely to feel tired on top of your existing fatigue, but you'll find it much easier to sleep off your hangover. You may also notice your appetite returning, so be sure to replenish your system with food — like eggs, bananas, chicken soup, and oatmeal — to refuel your body from the night before.”

It is important to drink water and eat healthy foods instead of junk. Even though that cheeseburger sounds great, you need to start your day off better after putting your body through the wringer. Yi mentioned that the strain of cannabis you use might make you sleepy.

If you can relax at home, then an Indica dominant strain will be helpful to sleep off that nasty hangover. But if you have to be productive and leave the house, a Sativa strain will keep your energy up. If you are not able to use marijuana, CBD will help your headache and should reduce your nausea.

If you know you are going to be drinking, roll a joint ahead of time or put your vape by your bed for easy access- you will thank your past self for this step trust me.

Using marijuana to relieve symptoms from another substance might sound crazy, but it can really change the way your day is going. If you are facing a dreaded hangover day, try marijuana and beat off last night’s mistakes.
